Characteristics
Its name has origin in its large sand extension. It is a place of rough waters, so it is frequented by aquatic sports lovers. The surf and body board world Championship takes place here every year.
The beach equally attracts the curious that want to see the foot prints fossils marked in the surrounding rocks.

Infra-structures
There is a car parking and a coffee and restaurants area.

Access
If you are in Sintra, follow the direction to Colares and here to Praia das Maçãs. Before you get there, on the left side of the road there’s a sign that points the beach. It is at about 2km away.
If you’re not taking the car you may use the number 441 of Scotturb buses.
