It
was build among granite rocks and surrounded by dense vegetation in 1560
by the order of Lord
Álvaro
Castro. It forms a great balance with the environment.
The ceilings, the doors and the window – shutters were lined with cork
to avoid the moistness and the cold that one can feel in this region.
This monument has a main altar covered by Florentine mosaics, while the
front chapel of
Senhor
dos Passos
was enriched with ceramic panels of blue enamel in 1740.
